Chronological Travelogue part 2Trip to BrooklynNo sooner were we home that Kitty wanted to see the special Hiroshige exhibit "Views of Edo" at the Brooklyn Museum before it ended. So we drove down and visited friend and our estate lawyer, Joyce Goldstein. Driving was not great, bad traffic the closer we got to the city so all our subsequent trips were by train. Although it was raining, Kitty got a photo of the brownstone where her great grandad once lived. |

Long IslandKitty's son and family spend their summers in Bellport, Long Island so we visited them there towards the end of August. This included a day at the town beach, which requires taking a ferry over to the far eastern end of Fire Island, as well as an outing to the driving range. Kitty and Bart also visited Kitty's high school friend Karen Murphy Miller and husband Ira at their West Hampton condo. They had lunch with Bart's Choate friend Peter Schaeffer at the Maidstone! And of course visited Kitty's parents' grave in East Hampton. |

SeptemberOur first house guest arrived at the beginning of September, mutual friend Peter Weichsel, who was partially responsible for our getting together as Bart came to San Diego to visit him 2 years ago. We enjoyed meeting his niece and nephew. Most importantly, Peter had heard we had a bear living nearby and was determined to see him. We could not guarantee that but sure enough on Peter's last day there it came sauntering by on the common area lawn outside our deck. |
Bart and Peter walk Rockie YankeesBart is a diehard Yankee fan, as was Kitty's Dad, so with our team doing so well we went to some playoff games and then some World Series games, thanks to our friend Paul Greenfeld Lewis. Bart and he went a few times without Kitty. You can see the whole field when there, which is a great improvement over the TV coverage which does not show what is happening in the field, although Kitty likes the TV coverage of the strike zone and the at bats. |
Foliage seasonKitty's son Paul owns a condo at Stratton Mountain where we both had skied in the past. So we decided to get a jump on foliage season by going up there for a visit at the end of September. We rode the gondola to the top and then did another round trip as the views from it were so nice. |
|
We had our second house guest, Carol Frank, the second week of October which Kitty had guessed would be the best foliage week. It was really nice. We finally went to the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington. The house was designed by one of the first female architects in the USA who was the daughter of the owners. She had fallen in love with the area when attending Miss Porter's School. |

Boston visitWe are close enough to Boston to drive there as a day trip but we stayed over with friends Doug and Sue Myers anyway when we went to meet with Bart's Wallingford schoolmates there for their annual luncheon. The next day we visited MIT so that Bart could show Kitty all his favorite places there and tell stories of some of the pranks they played. We also had a lunch in Wallingford and met up with Bart's Choate classmates for a lunch in Essex. |

Kitty's trips to New YorkKitty discovered that she could drive to Bridgeport and then take a somewhat express train to New York, enabling her to make day trips to the city. Her first experiment in September was for a Brearley function to celebrate Mrs. Taliaferro's 90th who was her home room teacher in 11th and 12th. Then in October, she did this trip to see granddaughter Julie sing and dance in a performance. Amazingly good for a seven year old! Finally she did it with Bart for the funeral mentioned on page 1 of this creation. In November it was time to drive cross country to our winter home in San Diego but we had to stay later than Kitty wanted in order to play the qualifier for the Grand National Pairs. Since we qualified all is well. Five days to drive from Connecticut to Las Vegas for the Fall Nationals. No speeding tickets! Three times the flashing lights came up behind us, we pulled over and they went on by! |
Having checked out the weather in advance we chose the southern route, I-40. This included a stop in Amarillo with dinner at the Lairs, a visit to Kitty's old home in Albuquerque (how big the trees she planted are now!), and Hoover Dam via the Tillman bridge which was not there when either of us went before. After the National bridge tournament it was home to our San Diego condo long enough to do laundry and then leave again for our anniversary tournament in Palm Springs. Bart finally met Kitty's friend and half 4th cousin Corinne and her husband Ed for a meal there. We did well at the bridge tables also, a 2nd in the pairs and winning the final team event with friends Ira and Ellen Hessel. |

Back in San Diego with normal cool winter weather, low 60s. We are happy to see movies in the theaters with our friends again plus a magic show at Mystique. We loved the Bob Dylan biopic, " A Complete Unknown," so now are working our way through the many other movies about him. New Years Eve we went to the Lightscape at the Botanic Garden with Carol Gold which was lovely, but it was more beautiful last year on New Years Day when we went with both Golds. |
Last year, the Lightscape had the beautiful lotus on the left which was reflected in the water. The same area this year had the fireflies shown above. Also quite stunning. |
