NEW ADDITION
Kitty fell in love with our new dog, Navajo, online at petfinder.com
while doing research for a pet-related website. So we drove 300 miles to Shiprock, NM, on the Navajo reservation, in the Northwest corner of the state (Tony Hillerman country) to adopt her from Desert Dawg Rescue.
She had some adjustment problems and is still difficult with strangers, although wonderful with us and the other dogs.
This photo shows Navajo chewing up a soaker hose in the garden, one of her many preferred
chew toys;
other favorites include Kitty's sandals, feather pillows, and cushions.
VOLUNTEERING
- Steve continues to work at the city animal shelter,
walking dogs and thus helping them stay adoptable. He also assisted a city councillor
in
drafting some dog related legislation.
- During our travels we occasionally took along shelter dogs who it was thought would
be more adoptable elsewhere -- we took canine passengers with us from Gallup to Tucson and
from Albuquerque to Denver.
- Kitty continues to enjoy being a Master Gardener and made them a new community website.
WORK
Kitty's web design business is very successful. The banner above shows some of the many
sites she
created this year. Her specialties are simple, uncluttered sites, often with photo
galleries or dynamic content. Her sites
include
a gallery of a local artist's work, an online magazine,
and
a heavy
metal band. She also built an online resume for her brother
(shipleymunson.com).
Kitty has also done a lot of work with and for other designers, doing the PHP and mySQL
programming to make their Ecommerce or user login functions work.
BRIDGE
We won many regionals this year. We now expect, and usually achieve, to win at least one
or two events per tournament. We went to the Spring Nationals in Reno and finished in the
top 20 in the Grand National and Mixed Pairs.
Kitty is helping the UNM Bridge Club get started by teaching a beginner class there. She also made them a web page
HEALTH
We forgot to mention in last year's newsletter that Kitty's arthritis got so bad that she went on the drug prednisone. It turns out not to be arthritis at all, but polymyalgia, which does not usually last more than two years.
FAMILY
Kitty's parents have had some health issues this year, leading her to change her plans for
her Labor Day visit back East; instead of staying in NYC she went straight to
Massachusetts. Once things were OK, Kitty was able to include visits to the old
family summer home, in Wolfboro, NH, to her close friend Karen, in Exeter, and to her brother's new home in Philadelphia. Kitty's Dad
is now in the hospital with some spinal problems that may require an operation.
Kitty's son, Paul, is still happy with his job at Bear Stern's and his girlfriend Andrea.
TRAVEL
We did a lot of traveling in our motor home this year. We went to California twice, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas. We visited with Steve's college friend Rochelle in Salt Lake City and with Kitty's cousins Claire and Lee and his wife Merla, in San Francisco. Click on any picture to see more pictures of that trip.
