Happy Holidays

We hope that 2008 brings all of you much joy.

  Our News

Our biggest news is that we plan to move to Fort Collins, Colorado as soon as someone buys our house in Albuquerque. Why Fort Collins you may ask?

  1. The CSU vet school: Excellent care for our dogs, including the best doggie oncology in the world. Also, since we are leaving them most of our “estate” we get invited to interesting things at the school and will be able to attend them.
  2. Cooler weather and some winter but still very sunny (Steve thinks Albuquerque is too hot).
  3. Better human medical than Albuquerque (Fort Collins was the Money Magazine place to live in 2006).
  4. Sheer raw beauty: mountains, trees, small lakes, river...
  5. Just over an hour North of Denver which is a real city with many good things, including a first-rate botanic garden.
  6. More nearby Bridge tournaments.
  7. This is a good time to buy there (and hopefully the goodness of the time to buy will trump the correlative badness of the time to sell in Albuquerque).

  Friends and Family

The big event this year was Kitty's cousin's daughter Laura Knisely's wedding to her long-time boyfriend Kent Geisel. It was the most beautiful wedding we have ever attended — outdoors under a flowered arch on a cliff overlooking Lake Ontario at the home of her grandmother (Kitty's Aunt Trudi). The ceremony included 10 friends, including Kitty's son Paul, blessing the rings and all of us standing and vowing to support the marriage.

On the way to the wedding, we visited with many of our friends back East. First stop the Blooms in Duanesburg, NY. Then we went to North Bay Ontario to play Bridge and spend time with Kitty's friend Amy. Next we stayed in Exeter, NH with Karen and Alex where we also saw Karen's daughter Justine's new house. Then we visited with Kitty's brother Shipley and family in West Hartford, CT.

Earlier this year Kitty had gone East for her 35th college reunion, staying with cousin Susan Murrell and family. That trip included Justine's wedding celebration, as well as a short visit with son Paul in NYC. Paul, we are delighted to report, has moved in with his girlfriend Lindsay.

Kitty expects to become a Grand Life Master in January at the Albuquerque Regional. We went to all three Nationals this past year, with limited success — 10th in the Grand National Pairs and 14th in the North American Swiss Teams were our best finishes. However Steve is proudest of bringing Kitty in 23rd in the National Fast Pairs; this would have been impossible a few years back.

We had brief visits with a number of Kitty's cousins who live in places where we played Bridge this year: Lee Munson, Larry Munson, Susan Das, and their families.

Kitty is still involved in the Bridge in the Schools program and her Bridge teaching materials continue to used by teachers everywhere. This year she updated the manual for the new club series — Bridge in the 21st Century.

  Other Travels

We finally visited Sedona, AZ, where frequent teammates Robb and Linda Gordon live. It was stunningly beautiful. We took a hike with Robb through Red Rock country.

  Open Sky Web Design

Business has been good this year. Most of our business has become creating CMS (Content Management System) sites using the JOOMLA system and building custom components for these systems. The USBF site is a good example of this type of system, with custom software for entering teams into trials events and creating system forms.

Kitty got a new digital camera and achieved one of her life's ambitions, capturing the image of a butterfly.
